History was in the making yesterday, when Iceland made its way closer to Olympic Gold Medal in men's handball for the first time ever.
Around noon Reykjavik time yesterday, all of the people here sat and watched the game to support the team. It was so exciting to see their enthusiasm for this event. At Mamma Solla's workplace, everybody sat in the living room with snacks and drink while watching the game. It was later revealed on the TV news, that all schools actually postponed all of their classes during the game, so students can watch it. It was amazing to feel this immense spirit of nationality.
The President of Iceland actually made a remark that yesterday was an "independence day" for all Icelanders. Mamma Solla said that on yesterday afternoon, all supermarkets were full of people who were buying lots of food and drinks to celebrate the "2nd independence day" this year.
This Sunday will be the moment of truth when Iceland will face France to determine who gets the Gold Medal. The match will be at 8 AM (Reykjavik time), and even I get excited for this.. GO ICELAND!
